Mentoring for Prickly Pear 2020 15K
Gary mentored many beginning trail runners to accomplish their goal of completing a 15K trail run. He devoted twice-weekly runs with the group under the guidance of the program director helping runners with various questions from equipment, food, and running plans.
Running for Dummies Class
Gary and Adrianna noticed that many air force members were struggling to must take a true performance-based test to show physical fitness. This test includes pushups, crunches, and a 1.5-mile run.
We devised a class where we can discuss the clothing and technique for proper running as well as how to train for objectives and race distances. This course involved about an hour of classroom discussion followed by some basic bodyweight exercises to strengthen the core muscle groups then a hands-on running evaluation on a track. The results were not tabulated, but we received lots of positive feedback on the results from several attendees. In addition, the popularity of the course grew and we filled each weekly class with 40 students per week.

Ohio River Road Runner Club (ORRC) Monthly Races
ORRC would host monthly team races and I formed the team from the National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC) and then from the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT). EWhileI was the Captain, each team would place in the top 5 out of 20-25 teams during the races. The race distances varied from 5K to 15K. I formed a team of at least 20 runners, held team practices working on speed work, and provided recommended training plans to achieve the aerobic fitness levels to run the max distances. During the first season for the NASIC team, we finished 3rd overall in the series out of the 22 teams entered.
